Kaiku KAIKOUTIL rouge
KAIKOUTIL rouge comes from red COUTIL in French.
This is the result of a collaboration with Tissage Moutet, an ancient fabric factory from the French Basque Country. They have been weaving linen and cotton fabrics for 5 generations, in the traditional way. For this summer collection we have used the traditional pattern in the blankets used to cover oxes backs while working. Made out of 50% french linen and 50% cotton waved by them in France. As always, our coats are also hand crafted by local artisans in the Basque Country, in Spain.
Kaiku is the coat traditionally worn by the Basque fishermen or arrantzales. It was made by a tight wool fabric, perfect for the heavy rains and humid wind they have to deal with on the sea.
We have maintained the simplicity of its shape and the main features of the kaiku, such as the big pockets, heart-shaped elbow patch or the shoulder stripes to keep the txapela.
